Σκάλα Μαριών, Θάσος 🇬🇷
This morning we moved from a ‘temporary’ apartment to a bigger apartment overlooking the Hotel Maria where we first stayed 20 years ago (2001 was our first time in Thassos – 2006 was the first time at Maria’s, a lovely little place we have loved ever since).
Afterwards Mum and I went to the bakery to get breakfast. Here at the Makedonia, we are doing our own breakfast. Bougatsa (the cream filled pie with pastry, cinnamon and sugar), bread and jam, and a chocolate milkshake.
We spent the morning relaxing by the pool, which was nice – we had it all to ourselves! We were also adopted by a little tabby cat. The cat curled up and fell asleep with Mum yesterday. Today was my turn.
After lunch – a cheese roll and a marmite roll, we got ready to go out to spend the afternoon on the beach. We went along the coast to Skala Marion. Formerly the fishing port of the inland village of Maries, today it is a small tourist resort, a lovely beach both in the centre of the village, and (our preferred beach) just beyond the headland.
I had a lovely time swimming in the calm, very clear water – sunbathing, swimming again. I walked over the headland in to the main village for a little wander, then back to the beach for a final swim before getting back in the car to return to Potos.
In the evening, we walked in to Potos and had gyros at El Greco on the main street going in to the village centre. I had chicken gyros, as a portion (plated and deconstructed – not as a wrap). Very tasty.
Saturday tomorrow and we’re expecting the weekend to be quite busy out and about in Thassos.
