Άγιος Ανδρέας & Μαυροβούνι

The weather today hasn’t been so good – It rained for most of the afternoon – but I still managed to have a relaxing day.

I started my day as usual with a walk to the bakery for my morning bougatsa, which I ate on the balcony of my room with a glass of milk.

Here are a couple of photos of my hotel; and of the view from my balcony. I am in the Korakakis Beach Hotel which is right on the front. My room doesn’t have a sea view but the garden view isn’t bad.

I drove round to Agios Andreas (Άγιος Ανδρέας) which is the small village we stayed in when I was last in this part of Greece 2 years ago. Compared to Finikounda, Ag. Andreas is dead now – of course the weather might have something to do with it – but I noted there were no cars parked in the hotel car park where we stayed.

I managed to get about an hour on the beach there before it became impossible to hide from the fact that rain was on the way. I got on the road before it rained but the rain started while I was half way across the mountainous road back to Finikounda.

When I got back to Finikounda I felt sorry for the couple walking back from the supermarket in t-shirt and shorts who were drenched by the time they got to the end of the road. I didn’t look much better by the time I’d walked across the road from the car in to the hotel reception.

Because of the rain I decided I’d have my siesta from 1-4pm then see what it was like afterwards. The rain had stopped and the clouds were starting to clear.

After a bit of driving round deciding where to go I settled on a beach picnic and got myself a drink, some oregano flavoured crisps (my favourite) and a baguette (ham & cheese) from the supermarket/bakery and went to Mavrovouni (Μαυροβούνι) beach.

There were a few people who had ventured out post rain but not many at all – I almost had the beach to myself.

This evening was the first night I felt the need to put a jumper on when I went out to dinner. I had souvlaki & chips – simple but very good.

Tomorrow’s my last full day in the Peloponnese and it should be sunny all day (and for the rest of the week now). The plan for tomorrow is to go to Methoni, a favourite of mine from last time.

Καληνύχτα,
