I’m on holiday again and this time I’m back in my favourite country – Greece of course!
I flew out last night and arrived at an apartment in Artemida / Αρτεμίδα / Άρτεμις (an Eastern suburb of Athens about 10 minutes drive from the airport) just after 5 o’ clock this morning.
I was let in to my room but not given the key…the guy who let me in used his ‘Passepartout’ key, my key was locked in the restaurant and I would be able to get it later in the day.
I slept well, the flight tired me out! I had a late breakfast of bougatsa with a glass of milk. My plan for today was to get used to the car by driving to Sounio / Σούνιο. I’ve heard so much about it but have never been. Sounio is home to the Temple of Poseidon archaeological site. It took about an hour to get there.

Afterwards I had lunch in Lavrio / Λαύριο. I had driven through its cobbled town centre on the way to Sounio and thought it looked quite nice (probably nicer than Artemida which I only chose because of proximity to the airport…one to note for the future). There are a selection of bars, restaurants, cafes and other shops around the centre and a busy port not far away.
Returning to Artemida I had my siesta (I fell asleep on the sofa) – and woke up feeling refreshed around 5 – so I went for a walk around town and went to spend some time at the beach with my book.
I’m about to go out to dinner. There’s loads of things nearby so plenty of choice!
Tomorrow I’m going to the zoo and then moving on to Finikounda in the Pelopponnese (around a 4hr drive I think), which will be my home until Friday.
Καληνύχτα.
