Photo: Sunset from Panormos

On Saturday evening we drove over to the West coast of Skopelos, for a late afternoon swim at Μηλιά/Milia, before driving along to Πάνορμος/Panormos to have dinner at a spot where we could see the sunset.
I enjoyed eating my chicken in a clay pot with a cheese/tomato sauce. We had company too; I had to fend off a ginger kitten who climbed on to an empty seat and tried several times to climb on to the table – not unlike our cats at home! There was nothing for him though as we had already finished eating by the time he arrived.
Yesterday we went back to Milia in the morning; it is almost like 3 or 4 different beaches as it is effectively split in to several sections by sunbeds, tavernas, and big rocks in the sea. We had lunch at the beach – just a simple hot dog from the caravan at the back of the beach was enough.
In the evening, we drove up to the Ιερά Μονή Τιμίου Προδρόμου / Monastery of Prodromou up on the mountainside above Skopelos. The road there had clearly seen better days, it hasn’t been maintained and there were sections where a part of the road had been washed away forcing vehicles on to the other side of the road.
Greek Health & Safety clearly isn’t the same as in Britain: To warn people of the danger, they just hang an orange ribbon on a tree next to the dangerous section of road. I certainly wouldn’t want to drive that way at night, for fear of driving over the edge.
We had a look around the monastery, and after buying a couple of things from the monk in the small shop and making a donation, we drove back down the mountain to find something to eat. We ate in the Klimataria restaurant on the sea front.
After dinner we left Dad in a bar with a beer, while the rest of us went to walk Skopelos’ narrow streets. There are loads of different interesting places you can find wandering the backstreets of the town. It’s not easy to get lost – to get back to the sea front just go downhill and eventually you’ll arrive back where you started.
It was nearly midnight by the time we arrived back at the apartment. Monday is our last day with the car – Tuesday is our last full day in Greece and we will be taking a boad trip out towards Alonnisos, and on Wednesday we’ll leave early to get the ferry over to Skiathos. We’ll have breakfast on Skiathos before going to the Airport to fly back to Britain.
I’m hungry and I’m going for breakfast now.
