Itinerary :: Δρομολόγιο

My 3 week holiday is split in to 3 parts. Part 1 – The drive from the UK to Greece (6 days); Part 2 – The holiday in Greece (13 days); Part 3 – The return journey to the UK (5 days).

UK to Greece

Friday 17th May – Cirencester to Antwerp
Departure from work at 17:00.
Ferry – Dover to Calais (P&O Ferries, Pride of Kent). Departure 22:20, arrival in Calais 00:05.

Saturday 18th May – Antwerp to Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber
Visit to Schloß Drachenburg in Königswinter (near Bonn).
Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber is the village where the Vulgarian village scenes in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang were filmed.

Sunday 19th May – Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber to Sindelsdorf
Staying the night with relatives in Southern Bavaria.

Monday 20th May – Sindelsdorf to Sterzing (Vipiteno) via Innsbruck
Visit to Ambras Castle in Innsbruck.
Take the Brenner Pass to cross the Alps in to Südtirol, a German speaking region in Northern Italy.

Tuesday 21st May – Sterzing (Vipiteno) to Venice
A day of driving to get to the coast. Staying in Fusina, not far from Venice. If time allows I could get the waterbus in to Venice itself.

Wednesday 22nd May – At Sea
Taking the ferry from Venice to Igoumenitsa (Minoan Lines, Cruise Europa). Departure 04:30 am.

Holiday in Greece

Thursday 23rd May – Arrival in Greece: Igoumenitsa to Potos (Ηγουμενίτσα – Ποτός)
Arrival in Igoumenitsa around 08:00 – arriving in Greece by car for the first time.
Drive to Stavros (East of Thessaloniki), aiming to get there around lunch time. Continue on to Keramoti to get the ferry to Thassos, then drive down to Potos.

Friday 24th and Saturday 25th May
Holiday in Potos, Thassos

Sunday 26th May – Potos to Porto Rafti (Ποτός – Πόρτο Ράφτη)
A fairly long day of driving. Returning to the mainland then driving South until I reach the Αττική Οδός (Attiki Odos – Athens’ version of the M25), then following signs to Porto Rafti, a sea side town not far from Athens’ Airport and Rafina Port.

Monday 27th May – Porto Rafti to Tinos (Πόρτο Ράφτη – Τήνος)
Ferry from Rafina to Tinos (Golden Star Ferries, Superferry). Departure 07:55, Arrival 11:35.

Tuesday 28th & Wednesday 29th May
Holiday in Tinos

Thursday 30th May – Tinos to Syros (Τήνος – Σύρος)
Ferry from Tinos to Syros (Blue Star Ferries, Blue Star Paros). Departure 15:00, Arrival 15:30.

Friday 31st May & Saturday 1st June
Holiday in Syros.

Sunday 2nd June – Syros to Glyfada/Athens (Σύφος – Γλυφάδα/Αθήνα)
Ferry from Syros to Piraeus (Blue Star Ferries, Blue Star Paros). Departure 16:00, Arrival 19:30.

Monday 3rd June – Glyfada to Lefkada (Γλυφάδα – Λευκάδα)
Take the tram in to Athens in the morning, maybe.
Drive to Lygia in Lefkada, for my final night in Greece.

Tuesday 4th June – Lefkada to Igoumenitsa (Λευκάδα – Ηγουμενίτσα)
Morning in Lefkada then drive North to Sivota (Thesprotias), hopefully in time for final beach visit of the holiday. Evening meal in Sivota.
Continue to Igoumenitsa and check-in for the ferry to Venice.

Wednesday 5th June – At Sea
Ferry from Igoumenitsa to Venice (Minoan Lines, Cruise Europa). Departure 01:00.

Return to the UK

Thursday 6th June – Venice to Castro
Arriving back in Venice around 1am – Stop in a hotel near the port for a few hours then get on the road after breakfast.
Visit to Parco Sigurtà, Botanical gardens at Valeggio sul Mincio near Verona.
Continue on to the village of Castro, close to Lake Iseo in Lombardy.

Friday 7th June – Castro to Bregenz via Vaduz
Driving from Italy in to Swizerland, and briefly in to Liechtenstein to stop at its capital city, Vaduz. Continuing to Bregenz in Austria at the Eastern end of Lake Constance (Bodensee).

Saturday 8th June – Bregenz to Boppard-am-Rhein via Stuttgart
Returning to Germany to drive up to the Rheinland, stopping at Stuttgart on the way.

Sunday 9th June – Boppard-am-Rhein to Cirencester
A long day of driving through Germany, Belgium, France and the UK to get back to Cirencester by (hopefully) 10pm
