Παραλία Λάμπες και Κορώνη

I have had a relaxing day today and the next few days will probably be similar. I found the bakery (within the supermarket) to get bougatsa for breakfast which I ate on the balcony of my hotel room.

In the morning I went to the beach. I had aimed for ‘Mavro Vouno’ (Black Mountain) but missed the turning and ended up at Lampes (Παραλία Λάμπες) instead. In fact Lampes turned out to be the beach I liked when I was here back in 2021, so that didn’t really matter.

Temperatures this week here are mid – high 20s. Top temperature today was 27. Even when it clouded over for a bit while I was on the beach it stayed warm. I managed to get my first proper swim of the holiday in, read a few chapters of my book, and lay sunbathing in the sun for a bit.

For lunch I found a beach bar in Finikounda where I could have a simple ham & cheese toastie. Afterwards I returned to my hotel room for a short siesta…I have siestas at home as well, not just in Greece.

Later on this afternoon I got in the car and went to Koroni (Κορώνη). It was Sunny when I left Finikounda but the cloud which I’d had on the beach earlier had moved over to Koroni. That didn’t matter though as it meant it wasn’t too hot walking up to the castle.

The castle at Koroni is free to visit and walk around (actually it’s just the castle walls – inside there are now privately owned homes, some apartments, and a church – it’s really just an extension of the village – but it looks nice and as it is high up has nice views over Koroni. I also made a new friend – a very chatty cat was saying hello to anyone who’d listen and loved getting attention from every passer by possible.

I got back to Finikounda just as it was getting dark. I’ve had a few expensive days recently (with the zoo, all the driving yesterday, and Sounio on Saturday) so I made this evening a cheap one and went for a gyro. It was busy so I had to wait for a table to become free but I didn’t mind that. I enjoyed sitting beside the road, people watching.

Tomorrow I am thinking of going up towards Pylos. Possibly a couple of things near there I have in mind too (I’ll write about those tomorrow).

Καληνύχτα,
